Complete Analytical Expression of the Stiffness Matrix of Angular Contact Ball Bearings

open access: yesJournal of Tribology, 2013
International audienceAngular contact ball bearings are predominantly used for guiding high speed rotors such as machining spindles. For an accurate modelling, dynamic effects have to be considered, most notably in the bearings model.

Lubrication of Angular Contact Bearings

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1970
In angular contact bearings the motion of the ball on the race involves both rolling and spinning. Recent work provides theories of the generation of a lubricant film, by hydrodynamic mechanisms, for each of these motions considered in isolation. By comparison of these theories, and using knowledge of the kinematics of bearings, it has been possible ...

Thermally Activated Seizure of Angular Contact Bearings

A S L E Transactions, 1967
Equations have been developed relating friction-power to bearing element temperatures for the particular case of prelubricated or lightly lubricated ball bearings. An expression is derived for the change in relative dimensions of an angular contact bearing, as determined by the temperature gradient across the bearing.

Ball motion in angular contact bearings

Tribology, 1968
Abstract The nature of the frictional forces and moments applied to an angular contact bearing ball is examined in terms of slip, pivoting, spin and precession. Experimental methods for determining these quantities are given, together with results which indicate that the ball is retainer-controlled for pivoting, and race-controlled for slip.

Ball Contact Locus in an Angular Contact Bearing

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1983
The path of contact on the surface of a bearing ball is derived for pure spin and regular precession. Ball-race and ball-ball contacts are considered in a retainerless bearing. Track broadening and equatorial offset are found; quantitative experimental agreement is shown.

Diagnosing Faults of Angular Contact Ball Bearing

Volume 3: Dynamic Systems and Controls, Symposium on Design and Analysis of Advanced Structures, and Tribology, 2006
This paper presents experimental results for diagnosing faults in angular contact ball bearing in rotating systems such as motors or space actuators that nowadays can be found in a variety of consumer products. Some measuring methods of torque in small motors have been summarized.

Fatigue Life Analysis for Angular Contact Ball Bearing with Angular Misalignment

Journal of the Korean Society for Precision Engineering, 2016
Angular misalignment has a significant effect on the characteristics of angular contact ball bearings (ACBBs). This paper presents an analysis of fatigue life for ACBBs subjected to angular misalignment. A simulation model is developed with de Mul’s bearing model and the ISO basic reference rating life model.

The effect of preload of angular contact ball bearings on durability of bearing system

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2014
Angular contact ball bearings are commonly used in such situations when you need to reach high bearing stiffness. However, a significant stiffness increase can be achieved only through the introduction of preload to the angular contact bearings. The purpose of this paper is to present a method for assessing the effect of preload of the angular contact ...
