(1) The enzymatic removal of lipids from the vesicular membranes of the sarcoplasmic reticulum does not interfere with the fluorescence of the 1-anilino-8-naphthalenesulfonate (ANS) vesicular complex. (2) The fluorescence intensity of the ANS vesicular complex is considerably (50%) reduced by oleic acid (0.5MM) because it displaces ANS from its binding

Valinomycin has been shown to increase the amount of 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonate (ANS) bound to egg lecithin liposomes and also to increase the maximum fluorescence value, as derived from double reciprocal plots. The assay conditions were such that addition of valinomycin would not produce a transmembrane potential.

[Fluorescence dynamics of anilino naphthalenesulfonate in mitochondria exposed to corticosteroids].
Farmakologiia i toksikologiia, 1989Anilino naphthalenesulfonate fluorescence dynamics in the rat liver mitochondria during the first six minutes after corticosteroid (corticosterone, cortisone, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone) and cholesterol treatment in vitro was studied. The biphasic character of the process was observed depending on the hydrophobicity and concentration of the steroids.

[Adsorption of 1-anilino-3-naphthalenesulfonate on bilayer lipid membranes].
Biofizika, 1983A study has been made of the dependence of a membrane potential produced by adsorbed ANS anions on their bulk concentration, on the ionic strength of the solution, on the magnitude of charge and dipole potential drop at the bilayer surface. Measurements have been made on artificial planar membranes of various composition by the inner field compensation

Effects of Organic Anions on the Uptake of 1-Anilino-8-naphthalenesulfonate by Isolated Liver Cells
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1983Uptake of the fluorescent probe, 1-anilino-8-naphthalene-sulfonate (I) into isolated rat liver cells was studied using both fluorescence and filtration methods. The time course of the fluorescence enhancement of I after addition to the isolated liver cells was analyzed in terms of rapid, medium, and slow phases.

Abstract In aqueous and aqueous d-glucose solutions, 6-anilino-2-naphthalenesulfonate (2,6-ANS) and 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonate (1,8-ANS) form 1:1 inclusion complexes with β-CD. The molecular volume of 2,6-ANS bound to the β-CD cavity has been evaluated to be 4.7 nm3 from the viscosity dependence (Perrin plot) of the 2,6-ANS ...

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of the fluorescent probe 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANS) has been determined as the ammonium monohydrate with two conformationally distinct molecules in the triclinic P 1 ¯ lattice. The angles between the aromatic rings and the C N C plane are −9/22° and 112/22° respectively.

The binding of the hydrophobic fluorescent probe 1-anilino-8-naphthalene-sulfonate (ANS−) on phospholipid vesicle membranes was studied to gain information about the structure and mobility in the polar head group region, and to determine the degree of mixing of lipids on the microscopic scale.

Abstract A method has been explored for assessing hydrophobic polypeptides in beer by measuring fluorescence developed upon interaction of the proteins with 1-anilino-8-naphthalenesulfonate. The method was initially applied to three separate purified proteins (bovine serum albumin, cytochrome c and catalase) and different response patterns were ...

For investigation of influence of reactive oxygen species on biological systems the peculiarities of light scattering and fluorescence spectra of aqueous solutions in the presence of photoactive additions of acetone (5 x 10(-4) - 30) and anionic probe ANS (5 microg/l-10 mg/l) have been considered. In water and diluted aqueous acetone and ANS solutions,
