KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

A novel ORF127/ORF130 gene deletion Orf virus vaccine candidate: construction and evaluation

open access: yesVirology Journal
Background Orf is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by the Orf virus (ORFV), posing a serious threat to the health of ruminants and humans. Vaccination remains the most effective strategy for disease control.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

CTSL-2 upon specifically recognizing Vibrio splendidus directly cleaves complement C3 to promote the bacterial phagocytosis and degradation in oyster

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling
Cathepsin L (CTSL) as a cysteine cathepsin protease mediates complement C3 cleavage and pathogen degradation. In the present study, a CTSL homolog was identified from Crassostrea gigas (designated as CgCTSL-2). Its mRNA expression increased significantly
