Genetics of Graviperception in Animals

2005
Gravity is a constant stimulus for life on Earth and most organisms have evolved structures to sense gravitational force and incorporate its influence into their behavioral repertoire. Here we focus attention on animals and their diverse structures for perceiving and responding to the gravitational vector-one of the few static reference stimuli for any

Genetics and animal models of hypoparathyroidism

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2001
Hypoparathyroidism is a heterogeneous group of disorders with diverse etiologies. During the past decade, major advances have been made towards unraveling the precise cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the pathogenesis of this endocrinopathy.

Genetic Engineering of Animals

1986
Genetic engineering of animals is becoming a reality as the later chapters in this Volume will illustrate. Genetic engineering is the field of manipulating the DNA of a cell or of an animal in order to alter the genetic information contained within the organism’s genome. The standard techniques of recombinant DNA are used.

Genetic aspects of animal reasoning

Behavior Genetics, 1993
This paper reviews the investigations of Prof. L. V. Krushinsky and his colleagues into the genetics of complex behaviors in mammals. The ability of animals to extrapolate the direction of a food stimulus movement was investigated in wild and domesticated foxes (including different fur-color mutants), wild brown rats, and laboratory rats and mice. Wild

Genetic animal models of anxiety

Neurogenetics, 2003
The focus of this review is on progress achieved in identifying specific genes conferring risk for anxiety disorders through the use of genetic animal models. We discuss gene-finding studies as well as those manipulating a candidate gene. Both human and animal studies thus far support the genetic complexity of anxiety.
