Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Black soldier fly larvae as animal feed

open access: yesЖивотновъдни науки
Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens L.) larvae (BSFL) are a promising alternative to traditional animal feed sources due to their high nutritional value, including protein (8-60% DM), fat (18-40% DM), essential amino acids, minerals, and lauric acid ...

Treating tropical grass with fibrolytic enzymes from the fungus Trichoderma reesei: Effects on animal performance, digestibility and enteric methane emissions of growing lambs

open access: yes, 2022
Food security and climate change concerns are pressing livestock production industry to seek sustainable practices to increase productivity while reducing the intensity of enteric methane (CH4) emissions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

High-energy forage feeding diets and body condition on the finishing of cull dairy cows

open access: yesAnimal, 2012
Combinations of two high-energy forage finishing diets and two initial body condition scores (BCSs) in a 2 × 2 factorial experimental design were evaluated on cull Holstein–Friesian (HF) cows to improve animal performance and carcass characteristics ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
