Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

CAVALLI, GIRAFFE E ALTRI ANIMALI. LA QUESTIONE ANIMALE FRA ANTROPOLOGIA, PSICOANALISI E ARCHEOLOGIA [PDF]

open access: yesS&F_scienzaefilosofia.it, 2015
The essay analyses the issue of the animal in several respects: biological (Bolk, Von Uexküll), anthropological (Gehlen), philosophical (Bentham, Heidegger, Derrida, Foucault) and psychoanalytic (Freud, Lacan).

Dynamic Animations of Journal Maps: Indicators of Structural Changes and Interdisciplinary Developments [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology 59(11), 1810-1818, 2008, 2009
The dynamic analysis of structural change in the organization of the sciences requires methodologically the integration of multivariate and time-series analysis. Structural change--e.g., interdisciplinary development--is often an objective of government interventions.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Automatic imitation of intransitive actions in macaws

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Automatic imitation is the involuntary tendency of humans to copy others’ actions even when counterproductive. We examined the automatic imitation of intransitive actions in blue-throated macaws (Ara glaucogularis), employing a stimulus-response-

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (
