High conductance anion channel in Schwann cell vesicles from rat spinal roots [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Potassium uptake, possibly together with chloride, is one of the presumed functions of Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. However, the presence of chloride channels has not been demonstrated in adult Schwann cells.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Severe Metabolic Acidemia in a Patient with Aleukemic Leukemia

open access: yesCase Reports in Nephrology, 2018
Malignancy associated lactic acidosis is a rare metabolic complication that may accompany various types of malignancies. To date, most cases that have been reported are associated with hematologic malignancies (lymphoma and leukemia).

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Anion gap in hyperproteinaemia: With reference to tuberculosis patients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medicine and Health Development, 2006
Objectives: (1)To determine the level of electrolyte in TB patients (2) To see if these are significantly different from those of control-match for age and sex (3) To calculate the anion gap levels in TB patient and (4) to see if the anion gap levels ...

Adenosine triphosphate as a modulator of protein interactions and stability

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ATP is best known as the cell's energy currency, but it also shapes how proteins fold, interact, aggregate and form biomolecular condensates. This review explains the emerging physical principles behind these effects, including weak binding to charged protein regions, magnesium‐dependent behaviour and concentration‐dependent control of protein ...

The significance of strong ion gap for predicting return of spontaneous circulation in patients with cardiopulmonary arrest

open access: yesOpen Medicine, 2017
Useful parameters that can predict return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients with cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) have not been established. We previously reported the usefulness of anion gap (AG) and albumin-corrected anion gap (ACAG) calculated

Transient total blindness associated with alcoholic ketoacidosis

open access: yesAcute Medicine & Surgery, 2021
Background Methanol poisoning is often suspected in patients with high anion gap metabolic acidosis and visual deficits. Although alcoholic ketoacidosis can cause high anion gap metabolic acidosis, reports on vision loss are limited.

A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.
