Recognition of Anionic Porphyrins by DNA Aptamers
Biochemistry, 1996DNA sequences were isolated by in vitro selection for binding to N-methylmesoporphyrin IX (NMM), a molecule that behaves as a stable transition-state analogue for porphyrin chelatases. Clones approximately 280 and approximately 120 nucleotides long were obtained, which bound to NMM with sub-micromolar affinity but bound mesoporphyrin IX (MPIX), as well

Solvent effects on the molecular recognition of anions
Chemical Communications, 2013Anion recognition of two flexible diols in different solvents and binary mixtures were examined. Binding constants (K) in CD3CN and CDCl3 are surprisingly similar, and CD3CN-solvent mixtures led to reduced values of K that are smaller than in either pure solvent. A surprising U-shaped dependence is observed.

Steric complementarity in carboxylate anion recognition
Dalton Trans., 2004A 2,6 pyridino-linked aminocryptand acts as a good host for carboxylate anions, oxalate, malonate, acetate and lactate at low protonation levels as shown by aqueous complexation constants. With oxalate, at the hexaprotonated level of the host, the crystal structure shows formation of a dimeric unit linked by an oxalate/semioxalate short (2.474 A) H ...

Urea vs. thiourea in anion recognition
Org. Biomol. Chem., 2005Neutral anion receptors (LH) form stable 1 : 1 H-bond [LH...X]- complexes with carboxylates, halides and phosphate (X-). Some of the [LH...X]- complexes, in presence of an excess of X-, release an HX fragment, with formation of [HX2]- and the deprotonated receptor L-.

Anion−Tri-s-triazine Bonding: A Case for Anion Recognition
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2005An ab initio study of the possible interaction between several anions (F(-), Cl(-), N(3)(-), N(4)(-), and N(5)(-)) and tri-s-triazine molecule, an electron-deficient aromatic ring, has been carried out at the B3LYP and MP2 levels of theory. Minima are located corresponding to hydrogen bonding, pi-pi stacking, and reactive complexes.

Multiple recognition in polytopic anion hosts
Journal of Inclusion Phenomena, 1987Selectivity in guest binding by biogenic or abiotic receptors depends on the type, number, spatial orientations and overall flexibility of the ensemble of recognition sites interacting with the substrates. The putatively optimal approach to construct a selective host compound is to arrange anchor groups on a rigid concave molecular framework capable of
