Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Nanosized Anisotropic Sm–Fe–N Particles with Metastable TbCu7-Type Structures Prepared by an Induction Thermal Plasma Process

open access: yesNanomaterials
TbCu7-type Sm-based compounds can be produced in bulk and potentially surpass Nd2Fe14B as permanent magnets. However, as the processes to prepare anisotropic magnetic particles are limited, the full potential of TbCu7-type Sm-based compounds cannot be ...

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Calculation of the Generalized Stress Intensity Factors for a V-notched Anisotropic Body

open access: yes, 2002
A robust method for calculating a generalized stress intensity factor for a V-notched anisotropic body under symmetric and/or anti-symmetric deformation is derived for plane stress or plane strain.

FULL ANISOTROPIC MODEL FOR SIMULATING THE INFRARED REFLECTION ABSORPTION SPECTRA (IRRAS) OF SELF-ASSEMBLED MONOLAYERS (SAMS) FROM ALL-ATOM MOLECULAR DYNAMICS SIMULATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
It is important to understand the internal molecular structure of molecular monolayers because that determines the physical and chemical properties of their surface.

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...
