Curved photovoltaic surface optimization for BIPV: an evolutionary approach based on solar radiation simulation

open access: yes, 2009
The paper attempts to address the problem of the optimization of curved photovoltaic surfaces that may become the alternatives of the traditional flat PV surfaces in BIPV.

Wide-azimuth angle-domain imaging for anisotropic reverse-time migration

open access: yes, 2011
Extended common-image-point gathers (CIP) constructed by wide-azimuth TI wave-equation migration contain all the necessary information for angle decomposition as a function of the reflection and azimuth angles at selected locations in the subsurface. The

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Resonant absorption of electromagnetic waves in transition anisotropic media

open access: yes, 2017
We study the mode conversion and resonant absorption phenomena occurring in a slab of a stratified anisotropic medium, optical axes of which are tilted with respect to the direction of inhomogeneity, using the invariant imbedding theory of wave ...

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Anisotropic mean-square displacements in two-dimensional colloidal crystals of tilted dipoles

open access: yes, 2005
Superparamagnetic colloidal particles confined to a flat horizontal air-water interface in an external magnetic field, which is tilted relative to the interface, form anisotropic two-dimensional crystals resulting from their mutual dipole-dipole ...

Theoretical Study on the Detection of Tilted Lipid Bilayers Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Effective refractive indices detected using surface plasmon resonance techniques are calculated as a function of the tilt angle of lipid bilayers in a multilayered model.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Modeling of weak anisotropic anchoring of nematic liquid crystals in the Landau-de Gennes theory

open access: yes, 2007
The anisotropic anchoring effect of a treated solid surface on a nematic liquid crystal is described in the Landau-de Gennes theory using a power expansion on the tensor-order parameter and two mutually orthogonal unit vectors.
