Mucosal‐Associated Invariant T Cells in Rheumatic Diseases

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Mucosal‐associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are innate‐like T cells defined by their semi‐invariant T cell receptor and restriction by the major histocompatibility complex class I–related molecule (MR1). These cells are primarily activated by microbial‐derived metabolites presented by MR1 or by cytokines.

Biological and genetic evaluation of IL-23/IL-17 pathway in ankylosing spondylitis patients

open access: yesCentral European Journal of Immunology, 2020
Ankylosing spondylitis is the most common form of the chronic inflammatory disease group known as spondyloarthritides. Recent discoveries of the CD4+ Th17 cells and IL-23/IL-17 axis have changed the paradigms in many autoimmune diseases.

Factors related to health-related quality of life in ankylosing spondylitis, overall and stratified by sex

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2018

Clonal sharing of CD8+ T‐cells links skin and joint inflammation in psoriatic arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an HLA class I‐associated inflammatory arthritis that develops in up to 30% of people with psoriasis. We tested the hypothesis that skin and joint inflammation in PsA is linked in terms of CD8+ T‐cell phenotype and clonality.

A five-year prospective study of spinal radiographic progression and its predictors in men and women with ankylosing spondylitis

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2018
BackgroundKnowledge about predictors of new spinal bone formation in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is limited. AS-related spinal alterations are more common in men; however, knowledge of whether predictors differ between sexes is lacking. Our

Late‐Onset Spondylarthritis Presenting as Glucocorticoid‐Resistant Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A hitherto underappreciated entity where TNF or IL‐17 Blockade may have a Therapeutic Role

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Background Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an age‐related inflammatory disease with shoulder‐hip girdle involvement. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reveals extracapsular/entheseal soft tissue involvements in both PMR and spondyloarthritis (SpA) with sacroiliac joint and peri‐entheseal spinal bone marrow oedema (BMO) being characteristic of SpA ...
