Phosphatidylserine on sperm head interact with Annexin A5 on oviduct luminal cilia to form a sperm reservoir in pigs

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cell Biology
After insemination, a subpopulation of sperm reaches the oviducts and binds to isthmic epithelial cells to form a “sperm reservoir”. Our objective was to explore the role of annexin A5 (ANXA5), a protein that binds with high affinity to ...

Membrane Modulates Affinity for Calcium Ion to Create an Apparent Cooperative Binding Response by Annexin a5

open access: yes, 2013
Isothermal titration calorimetry was used to characterize the binding of calcium ion (Ca2+) and phospholipid to the peripheral membrane-binding protein annexin a5.

Annexin A5 Regulates Store-Operated Calcium Entry via Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major contributor to cancer-related mortality worldwide. Store-operated calcium (Ca2+) entry (SOCE), the principal Ca2+ influx pathway in non-excitable cells, has been implicated in ...

VDAC1 as Janus in cell death and survival: Annexin A5 to the rescue

open access: yesCell Calcium
VDAC1, a large conductance channel in the outer mitochondrial membrane, plays a crucial role in mitochondrial physiology. VDAC1 supports cellular metabolism and survival by serving as a mitochondrial Ca2+-uptake and ATP-exit system. Conversely, VDAC1 also contributes to apoptosis by forming oligomeric pores mediating cytochrome c release.

Calcium-Dependent Conformational Rearrangements and Protein Stability in Chicken Annexin A5

open access: yes, 2002
The conformational rearrangements that take place after calcium binding in chicken annexin A5 and a mutant lacking residues 3-10 were analyzed, in parallel with human annexin A5, by circular dichroism (CD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), and differential ...
