Locum doctor working: A qualitative exploration of the implications for learning and professional development

open access: yesMedical Education, Volume 60, Issue 5, Page 524-534, May 2026.
Abstract Background In the English National Health Service, and other health care systems internationally, there have been growing numbers of doctors working on a short‐ or long‐term temporary basis as ‘locums’. Social environments and professional relationships are fundamental to learning in clinical contexts; however, locums are often positioned at ...

Evaluation of the Dual Impact of Nanotechnologies on Health and Environment Through Alternative Bridging Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 15, 17 April 2026.
This review explores how alternative invertebrate and small‐vertebrate models advance the evaluation of nanomaterials across medicine and environmental science. By bridging cellular and organismal levels, these models enable integrated assessment of toxicity, biodistribution, and therapeutic performance.

Chaperone‐Mediated Autophagic Degradation of USP9X in Macrophages Exacerbates Postmyocardial Infarction Inflammation and Cardiac Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
This study demonstrates that inflammatory stimuli induce the acetylation‐triggered, chaperone‐mediated autophagic degradation of ubiquitin‐specific peptidase 9 X‐linked (USP9X) in macrophages. USP9X acts as a macrophage “inflammation switch” after myocardial infarction (MI). USP9X loss destabilizes tumor necrosis factor receptor‐associated factor (TRAF)

Dual Band Optimization and Defect Engineering Enable Ultrahigh Thermoelectric Performance in Filled Skutterudites

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 16, Issue 16, 22 April 2026.
A synergistic dual‐modulation strategy is employed in Yb‐filled skutterudites through concurrent indium filling and tellurium doping to optimize electronic band structure and phonon scattering. Cooperative band convergence and nanoprecipitate‐induced lattice distortions yield a high zT of 1.72 and enable an ultra‐efficient thermoelectric device with 8 ...
