Antibiotic Synergism and Antagonism

New England Journal of Medicine, 1951
THE chemotherapeutic armamentarium of the physician has recently grown considerably. The question is no longer merely whether to give penicillin; the choice must now be made among half a dozen or more efficient antimicrobial agents that can be used to advantage in many infectious processes. With the availability of several good drugs the idea naturally

Antagonism of Guanethidine by Chlorpromazine

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1973
Chlorpromazine was found to reverse the antihypertensive effects of guanethidine six times in use with four moderately or severely hypertensive psychiatric patients. Haloperidol and thiothixene caused similar effects. It is postulated that this drug-drug interaction occurs because chlorpromazine blocks the neuronal amine-guanethidine uptake pump ...

Benzodiazepine antagonism by aminophylline

Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1989
A double–blind, randomised study was performed to investigate whether aminophylline could reverse the sedative effect of benzodiazepine and if it could shorten the observation time necessary after benzodiazepine sedation. Forty patients undergoing minor abdominal, urogenital or lower extremity surgery were given benzodiazepine to maintain a state of ...

Digitoxin Antagonism by Visnadin

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1962
Visnadin, a lactone derived from bishop's weed, has been found to have marked antidotal properties in animals poisoned with digitoxin. It increases survival on acute and chronic administration of the glycoside, prevents the appearance of bradycardia, and reverses cardiac arrhythmias.

Antagonism and Identity

World Futures, 1994
Abstract Distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) aims to solve problems using cooperation between real or abstract entities. The transition from artificial intelligence (AI) to distributed artificial intelligence poses the problem of transition from an individualistic to a collective concept.

Orthosteric Drug Antagonism

2006
This chapter discusses how the real time relative kinetics of agonist and antagonist offset from the receptor determines whether or not orthosteric antagonists produce competitive, a hemi-equilibrium state or non-competitive antagonism. These kinetics effects also are discussed in terms of the target coverage produced in vivo.

Endothelin Receptor Antagonism

1995
Following the original report by Yanagisawa et al. (1988) more than 7 years ago, compelling evidence that ET plays an important role in the local regulation of smooth muscle tone and cell growth has been reported. In addition, many studies point to a significant role for endothelin in nonvascular function. The investigation of the endothelin system has
