Physostigmine Antagonizes Ketamine
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1980In a random cross-over double-blind trial, the effects of intravenous physostigmine salicylate (2.0 mg) and placebo were observed in seven healthy volunteers 10 minutes after the intravenous administration of 1.5 mg/kg of ketamine. Recovery time was significantly shorter after physostigmine than after placebo.

A capacity of freshly-drawn, normal serum to antagonize the action of insulin in the epididymal fat pad system has been found to be increased in the serum of untreated diabetic patients. A comparable increase has also been found in the serum of very obese subjects who are not apparently diabetic.

Among the reasons for use of antimicrobials in combination is the desire to achieve synergistic inhibitory or bactericidal activity. Several methods have been used to test for the presence of synergistic interactions, but virtually all are either very time consuming or nonstandardized.

Endothelin Receptor Antagonism
1995Following the original report by Yanagisawa et al. (1988) more than 7 years ago, compelling evidence that ET plays an important role in the local regulation of smooth muscle tone and cell growth has been reported. In addition, many studies point to a significant role for endothelin in nonvascular function. The investigation of the endothelin system has
