Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Dual therapy with corticosteroid ablates the beneficial effect of DP2 antagonism in chronic experimental asthma

open access: yesNature Communications
Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) signals via the DP1 and DP2 receptors. In Phase II trials, DP2 antagonism decreased airway inflammation and airway smooth muscle (ASM) area in moderate-to-severe asthma patients.

Effect of Pseudomonas protegens EMM-1 Against Rhizopus oryzae in Interactions with Mexican Autochthonous Red Maize

open access: yesLife
In the present study, the strain Rhizopus oryzae EMM was isolated from germinated autochthonous red maize seeds, which were harvested in a region of San Diego-Buenavista, Papalotla, Tlaxcala, Mexico, where cobs with fungal infections have been observed ...

How pollinator visits are affected by flower damage and ants presence in Ipomoea carnea subs. fistulosa (Martius and Choise) (Convolvulaceae)?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2019
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of florivory and of the patrolling ants associated to EFNs-extrafloral nectaries, on the frequency of floral visitors, using the specie Ipomoea carnea subs. fistulosa (Martius and Choise) in Caatinga area.

Efficacy and interaction of dicamba-haloxyfop tank mixtures

open access: yesRevista de Ciências Agroveterinárias, 2021
The application of herbicide tank mixtures is a common practice in agricultural settings, especially for controlling weed communities with mono and eudicotyledons species occurring simultaneously.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The Evaluation of Synergistic Effects of Green Tea and Cinnamon on Antioxidant and Stability of Soybean Oil [PDF]

open access: yesPizhūhish va Nuāvarī dar ̒Ulūm va Sanāyi̒-i Ghaz̠āyī, 2018
The aim of the study was comparing antioxidant properties and types of interaction (synergism and antagonism) between green tea and cinnamon extracts. After preparing different extracts, their antioxidant properties were measured by three methods, DPPH ...

Diversity of endophytic fungi isolated from different plant parts of Acacia mangium, and antagonistic activity against Ceratocystis fimbriata, a causal agent of Ceratocystis wilt disease of A. mangium in Malaysia

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Acacia mangium is an important wood for commercial products especially pulp and medium-density fibreboard. However, it is susceptible to Ceratocystis fimbriata infection, leading to Ceratocystis wilt.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
