ABSTRACT Climate change‐induced heat stress increasingly threatens crop production, particularly when high temperatures occur during the sensitive flowering stage. In maize, successful fertilization depends on viable pollen, successful pollen germination and subsequent pollen tube elongation reaching the ovule.
