Studies In The Field Of Drugs Containing Anthracene Derivatives

The anthranoid composition in roots of Rheum officinale has been followed during a one year cycle. No statistical correlation could be found between total anthranoid content and time of sampling. The mean total anthranoid content was found to be 3.17%, calculated on freeze dried plant material.

Drugs Containing Anthracene Derivatives

The characteristic constituents of this drug group are anthraquinones and their reduced derivatives, oxanthrones, anthranols and anthrones. The anthraquinones, which have purgative properties, possess phenolic groups on C-1 and C-8, and keto groups on C-9 and C-10. In the anthrones and anthranols, only C-9 carries an oxygen function.

Abstract 1-Ferrocenylantraquinone has been synthesized from the cheap and commercially available 1-diazoniumanthraquinone (Aldrich Fast Red Al salt). Reduction of this anthraquinone with aluminium alkoxide has given good yields of 1-ferrocenylanthracene, the first preparation of such polycyclic ferrocenes.
