Dipolar Side Chain Control of Monolayer Morphology: Symmetrically Substituted 1,5-(Mono- and diether) Anthracenes at the Solution−HOPG Interface

open access: yes, 2016
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is used to determine the 2-D unit cell parameters of monolayers self-assembled by twelve symmetrical, 1,5-bis(linear aliphatic ether side chain) anthracenes at the solution−graphite interface.

Heat‐ and Light‐Directed Cycloadditions Enable a Pericyclic Cascade Reaction From a Molecular Precursor

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A multi‐stimuli‐responsive material is designed that responds to light, heat, and mechanical force through distinct chemical reaction pathways. The pathway is directed by self‐assembly and the applied stimulus. A novel pericyclic reaction cascade is also achieved, and the mechanism is supported through density functional theory calculations.

Ultrastable Self‐Cross‐linkable Electro‐Optic Materials Based on a Bisanthracene Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A novel bisanthracene‐based self‐cross‐linkable electro‐optic chromophore (TD2) is developed. TD2 exhibits a high r33 of 141 pm/V and a cross‐linked Tg up to 195 °C, retaining 99.75% of its initial EO response after 500 h at 85 °C, showing record‐high thermal stability for single‐molecule self‐cross‐linking EO materials.

A Rational Approach to Tetra‐Functional Photo‐Switches

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2019
α,ω‐Bis(1,8‐dichloroanthracen‐10‐yl)alkanes with (CH2)n‐linker units (n=1–4) were synthesized starting from 1,8‐dichloroanthracen‐10(9H)‐one. This was transformed into anthracenes with allyl, bromomethyl and propargyl substituents in position 10; these ...

A survey of bacterial, fungal and plant metabolites against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae), the vector of yellow and dengue fevers and Zika virus

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2017
Aedes aegypti L. is the major vector of the arboviruses responsible for dengue fever, one of the most devastating human diseases. Some bacterial, fungal and plant metabolites belonging to different chemical subgroups, including Amaryllidaceae alkaloids ...

Diels‐Alder Reactivity of a Chiral Anthracene Template with Symmetrical and Unsymmetrical Dienophiles: A DFT Study

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2020
In this work, we used Density Functional Theory calculations to assess the factors that control the reactivity of a chiral anthracene template with three sets of dienophiles including maleic anhydrides, maleimides and acetoxy lactones in the context of ...

Palladium-Catalysed Coupling Reactions En Route to Molecular Machines: Sterically Hindered Indenyl and Ferrocenyl Anthracenes and Triptycenes, and Biindenyls

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Pd-catalysed Stille and Suzuki cross-couplings were used to prepare 9-(3-indenyl)-, 6, and 9-(2-indenyl)-anthracene, 7; addition of benzyne led to the 9-Indenyl-triptycenes, 8 and 9.

Mechanism of Scandium Ion Catalyzed Diels−Alder Reaction of Anthracenes with Methyl Vinyl Ketone

open access: yes, 2016
Rates of Diels−Alder cycloadditions of anthracenes with methyl vinyl ketone (MVK) are accelerated significantly by the presence of scandium triflate [Sc(OTf)3].

Doubly Bridged Anthracenes: Blue Emitters for OLEDs [data]

open access: yes, 2023
The photooxidative stability of a series of doubly bridged anthracenes was evaluated after their preparation via twofold macrocyclization of a bis(resorcinyl)anthracene.
