The scale matters: A review on stimuli‐responsive microrobots categorized by scale for biomedical applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, Volume 4, Issue 2, May 2026.
We systematically summarize how each scale dictates fundamental choices in design feature, manufacturing technology, driving mechanism, and control strategy, which are inherently governed by scale‐dominated physical principles. Furthermore, the application of scale‐determined operation modes of microrobots across different stages of medical ...

A Hanks‐type bacterial kinase, PknS, directly phosphorylates the alternative sigma factor EcfK to promote resistance to protist predation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 9, Page 2772-2793, May 2026.
The Xanthomonas citri Hanks‐type kinase PknS autophosphorylates and directly phosphorylates the alternative sigma factor EcfK at five residues. Besides the conserved residue T51 in the σ2 domain, phosphorylation of a residue in the linker between σ2 and σ4 is critical for EcfK activation by promoting its interaction with a positively charged pocket in ...

Anti-malarial and anti-inflammatory effects of Gynura procumbens are mediated by kaempferol via inhibition of glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (GSK3ß) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Gynura procumbens is a medicinal plant, traditionally used to treat inflammation and fever. A yeast-based assay detected GSK3â-inhibitory activity in the aqueous extract of G. procumbens.

Are physiological oscillations physiological?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 9, Page 3672-3693, 1 May 2026.
Abstract figure legend Mechanisms and functions of physiological oscillations. Abstract Despite widespread and striking examples of physiological oscillations, their functional role is often unclear. Even glycolysis, the paradigm example of oscillatory biochemistry, has seen questions about its oscillatory function.

Photonic Crystal Fibers in the Terahertz Regime: Design Strategies, Performance Metrics, and Emerging Applications: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
An optimized octagonal‐core terahertz (THz) photonic crystal fiber sensor is presented for accurate identification of different milk samples based on refractive index variation. The structure enables highly confined THz guidance and strong light–analyte interaction, allowing reliable discrimination of camel, cow, buffalo, and sheep milk.

The Brain‐Gut Axis in Parkinson's Disease Pathology

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Exposure to environmental toxins induces gut dysbiosis, increases intestinal epithelial barrier permeability, immune activation, and oxidative stress, promoting α‐syn misfolding and propagation. Brainstem DMV neurons exhibit α‐syn pathology, dysregulating neuronal excitability and vagal control of GI functions.
