Ice-bridging frustration by self-ejection of single droplets results in superior anti-frosting surfaces

open access: yes, 2023
Surfaces capable of delaying the frosting passively and facilitating its removal are highly desirable in fields where ice introduces inefficiencies and risks.

Experimental study on frost-formation characteristics on cold surface of arched copper sample [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The present work investigates the process of frosting formation on arched copper samples with different surface temperatures, calculated the thickness of the frost layer by using the scale method, and analyzed frost lodging, melting, and other ...

Optimization of Cockpit Ventilation for Polar Cruise Ships in Combination with Windscreen Defogging and Cabin Comfort Considerations

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Polar cruise ships are exposed to extreme external conditions during voyages, resulting in cockpit windscreens that are prone to fogging and frosting, seriously affecting the driver’s vision and even threatening navigation safety.

Development of Superhydrophobic Cotton Fabric Using Zinc Oxide Nanoflower/Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) Nanocomposite Coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Nanoflower is anticipated to become a very smart material due to its unique properties such as high surface to volume ratio. A hydrothermal method was used in this study to prepare the zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflower and characterized by X-ray diffraction ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
