Lactoferrin and Nanotechnology: New Insights Into Glioblastoma Therapy

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
Current glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) management primarily relies on surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy; however, therapeutic efficacy remains limited due to tumor invasiveness and restricted drug penetration across the blood–brain barrier. Lactoferrin (LF), an iron‐binding glycoprotein with receptor‐mediated transport capability, has emerged as a

Recent Advancements in Drug Delivery Across the Blood–Brain Barrier in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
Progressive BBB/BSCB dysfunction is increasingly recognized as both a pathological feature and a therapeutic barrier in ALS. Novel delivery technologies and barrier‐restoration strategies may enhance CNS drug exposure, improve the efficacy of disease‐modifying therapies, and advance ALS treatment. ABSTRACT Background Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Pangenome of Streptomyces sampsonii and Relatives Highlights Horizontal Gene Transfer and Secondary Metabolism in Environmental Adaptation and Ecological Significance

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study presents a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Streptomyces sampsonii and a pangenome analysis of 95 strains, revealing a highly expansive “open” pangenome. Our results highlight that horizontal gene transfer (HGT) and accessory gene variations drive the evolution of secondary metabolism and environmental adaptation.

A functional prognostic model predicts progression‐free survival in patients with relapsed chronic lymphocytic leukemia treated with ibrutinib + venetoclax

open access: yesHemaSphere, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Targeted therapies have improved outcomes for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL); yet, not all achieve durable responses. Existing prognostic models, developed for chemoimmunotherapy, have limited predictive value for newer targeted combinations.

A Review of the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Patients on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Scoping Review Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims ECMO is used to deliver cardiopulmonary support in extreme failure where standard therapies are unfruitful. Although ECMO is associated with high costs and significant risks, advances in technology and clinical management have improved its safety and patient outcomes. AI/ML may provide decision support through data analysis

Inhibition of NHE1 Overcomes Temozolomide‐Resistance in Glioblastoma via ROS‐AKT/ERK Axis‐Mediated Autophagy Suppression

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
NHE1 inhibition via HOE‐642 suppresses autophagy through the ROS‐AKT/ERK axis, reversing temozolomide resistance in glioblastoma by disrupting the autophagy‐apoptosis balance and enhancing TMZ sensitivity in vitro and in vivo. ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumor in adults, with temozolomide (TMZ) resistance being a ...

Heparan Sulfate Proteoglycans: Master Regulators of Cellular Signaling, Tissue Development, and Neural Function

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 104, Issue 9, September 2026.
Ubiquitous cell‐associated, cytoplasmic, synaptic and extracellular matrix HS‐proteoglycans are multifunctional regulators of tissue form and function. HS‐proteoglycans have diverse functions as growth factor co‐receptors in cell proliferation, differentiation, tissue development, mechanical stabilization, synaptogenesis, synaptic plasticity, and ...
