Reviewing of anti-islanding protection

2014 11th IEEE/IAS International Conference on Industry Applications, 2014
Distributed generation (DG) has grown over the years mainly due to environmental issues. DG are many varieties and sizes. This article presents an approach to some of this techniques, pointing out their advantages and disadvantages. The arrival of these new generation sources allowed greater variety in sources of energy, however this brought problems ...

Synchrophasor-based anti-islanding detection

2013 IEEE Grenoble Conference, 2013
During a loss-of-main or islanding situation, distributed generation units remain feeding a part of the electrical system without connection to the main power system. Although many islanding detection methods have been proposed in literature, and some of them are being used, there is currently no islanding detection technique that meets utilities ...

Anti-islanding accelerated by grid unbalance component

2015 9th International Conference on Power Electronics and ECCE Asia (ICPE-ECCE Asia), 2015
In this paper, a method to detect islanding operation of distributed generator (DG) is proposed, which exploits frequency drift accelerated by grid unbalance component, namely negative sequence component of grid voltage. The negative sequence component could be added to the gain of frequency feedback loop in the conventional anti-islanding scheme.

Assessing solar PV inverters' anti-islanding protection

2014 IEEE 40th Photovoltaic Specialist Conference (PVSC), 2014
This paper provides an overview of the islanding potential of solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Solar PV inverters are typically known to have very effective protection mechanisms, but concerns have been raised as to whether or not they could maintain an island if load and generation were closely matched and/or if there were additional sources of ...

Synchrophasor based transmission system anti-islanding scheme

2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2017
Unintended power system islanding means a portion of loads and generators become isolated from the rest of the grid. The islanded area is susceptible to severe power quality problems and may come across system instability. Islanding may occur in both distribution and transmission grids.

ANTI-ISLANDING SOLUTIONS IN LOW AND MEDIUM VOLTAGE

DYNA, 2020
This paper presents the most representative solutions used in the detection of unintentional electric islands in electrical distribution grid. In addition, it analyzes the adoption of these methods by equipment manufacturers, both in distributed resources based on power inverters and in protections and systems for monitoring the state of the grid. This

A New Approach to Anti-Islanding: Deployment Examples

2018 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (T&D), 2018
Islanding of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) is a growing concern as penetration increases. In a companion paper entitled “A New Approach to Anti-islanding: Design, Installation and In-Service Experience”, the authors describe a protective concept, DG Permissive (DGP), that reliably detects and removes an island within the 2 second window prescribed

Modeling anti-islanding protection devices for photovoltaic systems

Renewable Energy, 2004
Abstract Applications of grid-connected photovoltaic systems are rapidly expanding, providing a viable technology for renewable energy resources. Such systems are utility interactive and one of the major difficulties in their efficient use is related to islanding phenomena connected with a possibility of supplying surplus power back to the utility ...

Anti-islanding modeling of grid-tied inverters

2014 International Power Electronics and Application Conference and Exposition, 2014
For grid-tied inverters, islanding occurs when the grid is disconnected but the inverters are still energizing the local loads. When the inverter output active and reactive power match the local loads, the inverter output voltage and frequency will keep the same values as before. Islanding poses a hazard to maintenance workers and equipment.

Anti-islanding detection method using Negative Sequence Voltage

Proceedings of The 7th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2012
This paper presents an active Anti-Islanding Detection (AID) method using Negative Sequence Voltage (NSV) injection to electrical grid through a three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Because islanding operation mode can cause a variety of problems, the islanding detection of grid-connected PV inverter is the mandatory feature.
