Repurposing antimicrobial agents for neuroprotection: Mechanisms, clinical potential, and challenges

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial agents exert neuroprotective effects through modulation of interconnected pathways. Tetracyclines, macrolides, antimalarial agents, sulfones, and antiparasitic agents suppress neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis while preserving mitochondrial function and neurotransmission.

Effectiveness and safety of efgartigimod in patients with anti‐NMDAR or anti‐LGI1 encephalitis and its 18F‐DPA714 PET imaging evaluation: A multicenter, single‐arm, prospective, observational real‐world study

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Efgartigimod disrupts the recycling of pathogenic IgG autoantibodies and may represent a candidate therapy for autoimmune encephalitis. This real‐world study evaluated the clinical efficacy, safety, and impact of efgartigimod on brain inflammation.

Protective Potentials of Natural Products Against Vascular Dementia: A Comprehensive Review of Experimental Studies

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vascular dementia (VaD), accounting for up to 20% of dementia cases globally, is primarily driven by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH), which leads to progressive cognitive impairment. Despite the increasing prevalence of VaD, effective treatments remain limited.

Carbon dots as a smart nanoplatform for the blood‐brain barrier penetration and ischemic stroke therapy

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents the structure and transport routes of the blood‐brain barrier, summarizes the ischemic stroke pathophysiological cascade, and discusses the BBB‐crossing mechanisms and multitarget therapeutic effects of carbon dots, demonstrating their promising theranostic potential for ischemic stroke.

Tumor microenvironment responsive and nanozyme‐catalyzed photodynamic therapy via lysosome‐localized copper‐doped carbon dots

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
The lysosome‐localized copper‐doped carbon dots (Cu‐MLCDs) leverage the high expression of glutathione (GSH)/H2O2 in the tumor microenvironment to achieve fluorescence reactivation enhancement. Through its multi‐nanozyme activities (glutathione peroxidase, peroxidase, and catalase), this nanoplatform relieves hypoxia, depletes GSH, and synergistically ...

Chemical and Biological Determinants of PEG‐Lipid Shedding From Therapeutic Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
PEG‐lipids play a central role in governing lipid nanoparticle stability, targeting, and function. However, PEG‐lipids can “shed” from the nanoparticle surface in biological environments, with the extent and kinetics of shedding influenced by chemical and biological factors.

An Experimental Study on the Protective Effect of Memantine in Noise‐Induced Hearing Loss

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study examined the potential protective effects of memantine, an N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, against acoustic trauma (AT) in guinea pigs, using electrophysiological and histopathological analyses. Methods Thirty guinea pigs with normal hearing were divided into six groups (n = 5 per group): Group 1 (control),
