Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis in an Adolescent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present a case of a 17 year old male who presented with altered mental status and worsening hallucinations. Past medical history includes PTSD, ADHD, and pineal gland germinoma status post radiofrequency ablation. Presentation was remarkable for slow,

Copine‐4 Paraneoplastic Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We characterize copine‐4 (CPNE4)‐IgG and report clinical associations. Among 844 samples with unclassified neural IgGs identified by mouse‐brain indirect immunofluorescence assay over 2 years, 5 samples (serum, 3; CSF, 2) from 3 patients produced a distinctive cerebrum‐restricted synaptic pattern.

Anti-N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Encephalitis as Paraneoplastic Manifestation of Germ-Cells Tumours: A Cases Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Immunology, 2019
Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is the most common form of autoimmune encephalitis, caused by the interaction between an antibody and its target, located on glutamate receptor type N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) of neuronal surface ...

Studies of NMDA receptor function and stoichiometry with truncated and tandem subunits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The subunits that compose eukaryotic glutamate ion channel receptors have three transmembrane domains (TMs) and terminate with intracellular tails that are important for controlling channel expression and localization.

Opsoclonus in Pediatric Patients: Differential Diagnosis and a Practical Approach to Evaluation

open access: yesAnnals of the Child Neurology Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Opsoclonus is an ocular dyskinesia characterized by involuntary, arrhythmic, multidirectional saccades. In pediatrics, opsoclonus is most commonly attributed to the rare neuroinflammatory disorder opsoclonus‐myoclonus‐ataxia syndrome (OMAS), typically considered a paraneoplastic syndrome associated with neural crest tumors. However, opsoclonus

NMDAR‐antibody encephalitis: Seizure semiology and EEG findings

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptor antibody encephalitis (NMDAR‐Ab‐E) is an autoantibody‐mediated disorder, characterized by acute development of neuropsychiatric symptoms, seizures, movement disorders, and autonomic instability. Objectives To describe acute seizure semiology and electroencephalogram (EEG) findings in patients with a ...

Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis: a review of mechanistic studies

open access: yes, 2021
NMDA receptors (NMDARs) are ion channels gated by glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Anti-NMDA receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies ...

A case of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antibody encephalitis associated with immature ovarian teratoma

open access: yesFujita Medical Journal
Introduction: Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is typically associated with mature cystic teratomas. We report a case of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis associated with an immature ovarian teratoma, which is a malignant tumor ...

Solitary juxtacortical lesion associated with anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis: a case report

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2020
Background Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is a severe autoimmune encephalitis mediated by anti-NMDA receptor antibodies. Brain MRI manifestations vary and are non-specific.
