Anti-cancer effects of F16: A novel vascular endothelial growth factor receptor–specific inhibitor

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 is a dynamic target for therapeutic intervention in various types of cancers. This study was aimed to explore the anti-angiogenic activity of a novel vascular endothelial growth factor receptor–specific ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

VEGF(164)-mediated inflammation is required for pathological, but not physiological, ischemia-induced retinal neovascularization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Hypoxia-induced VEGF governs both physiological retinal vascular development and pathological retinal neovascularization. In the current paper, the mechanisms of physiological and pathological neovascularization are compared and contrasted.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Pleurodesis Is Inhibited by Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Antibody

open access: yesChest, 2005
The intrapleural injection of transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta2 produces pleurodesis in rabbits associated with large pleural effusions. This study investigated whether anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibody has any effect on the fluid production or the pleurodesis induced by TGF-beta2.Three groups of seven New Zealand white ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

The role of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) in the management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy

open access: yesDrugs in Context, 2018
Diabetes is a major cause of visual impairment among workingage adults in the United States. The proliferative form of diabetic retinopathy is associated with severe vision loss (acuity
