Cardiac Arrhythmias and Antiarrhythmic Drugs: An Autophagic Perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Degradation of cellular material by lysosomes is known as autophagy, and its main function is to maintain cellular homeostasis for growth, proliferation and survival of the cell.

Anti‐cancer drugs targeting the NADH‐binding site of VDAC rewire channel electrophysiology and partially suppress cation selectivity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
VA molecules alter VDAC1 gating by increasing anion flow and reducing cation permeability. In cancer cells, which rely on ER‐mitochondria Ca2+ transfer and overexpress VDAC1, this imbalance triggers bioenergetic stress, ROS buildup, and mitochondrial collapse, leading to cell death.

Antiarrhythmic Drug Use in Pregnancy: Considerations and Safety Profiles

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease
Pregnancy entails notable physiological alterations and hormonal fluctuations that affect the well-being of both the fetus and the mother. Cardiovascular events and arrhythmias are a major concern during pregnancy, especially in women with comorbidities ...

Catheter Ablation: Evolution and Efficiencies

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The present review includes a discussion the goals and pitfalls of efficiency in the medical profession, a historical perspective on the evolution of catheter ablation in the field of electrophysiology (EP), and the data regarding the relationship between efficiency and outcomes in the EP lab. Focus on efficacy is critical to maximize resource

The Pharmacology and Clinical Use of Lidocaine and Procainamide [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Both procainamide and lidocaine are useful for acutely treating cardiac arrhythmias, and procainamide can be useful in chronic antiarrhythmic regimens.

A Comprehensive Assessment of Renal Function During and After Pulsed Field Ablation

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Acute kidney injury is an uncommon complication of pulsed field ablation (PFA). There is, however, limited empirical data on the dynamics of renal biomarkers apart from creatinine. Furthermore, no study to date has assessed creatinine at more than 24 h after the procedure. Methods Patients undergoing PFA for atrial fibrillation (AF)

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMBINED USE OF MEXICOR TOGETHER WITH SOME ANTIARRHYTHMIC DRUGS IN ACUTE OCCLUSION OF CORONARY ARTERY IN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

open access: yesРоссийский кардиологический журнал, 2003
The aim of the study was to assess the influence of intravenous administration of mexicor (7mg / kg) on electrophysiological, hemodynamic action and antiarrhythmic activity of nibentan (1 mg / kg), propranolol (1,4mg / kg) and verapamil (0,4mg / kg) in ...

Is arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy a paediatric problem too? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a heart muscle disease that is often familial, characterized by arrhythmias of right ventricular origin, due to transmural fatty or fibrofatty replacement of atrophic myocardium. ARVC is usually

Sustained Idiopathic Outflow Tract Ventricular Tachycardia: Clinical Evidence for RVOT Predominance

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Idiopathic outflow tract premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are most commonly localized in the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT). The clinical significance of sustained outflow tract ventricular tachycardia (OT‐VT) regarding any predominance to one specific anatomic area remains uncertain.

Left Atrial Posterior Wall Functional Remodeling in Paroxysmal and Persistent Atrial Fibrillation. A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The left atrial posterior wall (LAPW) is often targeted in atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation due to its shared properties with pulmonary veins. However, substrate‐guided approaches using structural markers have shown inconsistent results.
