Assessing the interaction of the UCP system and fatty acids on epicardial adipose tissue mitochondrial respiration

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) demonstrates higher mitochondrial activity than subcutaneous fat (SAT), particularly in NADH‐ and FAO‐linked oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). While EAT expresses more UCP1, its inhibition by GDP minimally affects respiration, especially in FAO pathways, suggesting UCP1‐independence. Diabetes mellitus (DM) and coronary

Myasthenia Gravis Outcomes After Use of Statins and Other Contraindicated Treatments: Results From the French National Insurance Database

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 1, January 2026.
In this real‐world study among 14,459 adults with MG, exposure to any contraindicated treatment was not significantly associated with risk of ICU admission for MG but was associated with significantly higher risk of death. In contrast, statins were associated with a greater risk of ICU admission but a lower risk of death.

Further Insights Into Anticholinergic Action Informed by Japanese Anticholinergic Risk Scale

open access: yesGeriatrics &Gerontology International, Volume 26, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The increased anticholinergic burden caused by medications in older adults is one of the adverse drug reactions of particular concern, as it can exacerbate the onset of geriatric syndromes or induce cognitive dysfunction, and is also related to the issue of polypharmacy.

Catheter Ablation Is Associated With a Decrease in Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events and All‐Cause Mortality in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 36-45, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common risk factor for the development and progression of atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether catheter ablation for AF management in patients with coexisting OSA yields survival benefit remains unclear.
