Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

The formation of mono‐, dual‐, and triple‐species biofilms by L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, and E. coli was characterized by cell growth, metabolic activity, staining, and microscopy. Their resistance to a commercial disinfectant (NaOCl) and natural agents such as vinegar and lactic acid was evaluated.

The selective nature through which coumarin compounds produced by different species of plants target PQS signalling in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and select for distinct phenotypic responses in key pathogenic organisms adds to the growing evidence of their utility as natural virulence suppressors. ABSTRACT Cell‐to‐cell communication in microbial systems is

Antibiotics with antibiofilm activity – rifampicin and beyond
The management of prosthetic joint infections is a complex and multilayered process that is additionally complicated by the formation of bacterial biofilm. Foreign material provides the ideal grounds for the development of an intricate matrix that hinders treatment and creates a difficult environment for antibiotics to act.
