Bifurcation analysis and global dynamics of a mathematical model of antibiotic resistance in hospitals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Antibiotic-resistant bacteria has posed a grave threat to public health by causing a number of nosocomial infections in hospitals. Mathematical models have been used to study the transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria within a hospital and the measures to control antibiotic resistance in nosocomial pathogens.

Cartilage‐Penetrating Framework Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles Ameliorate Osteoarthritis by Promoting Drug Delivery and Chondrocyte Uptake

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on the poor cartilage penetration of tFNA, a novel tFNA‐2WL with excellent cartilage permeability and perfect chondrocyte endocytosis properties is designed and fabricated. As a result, tFNA‐2WL has a nearly seven‐fold increase in the penetration depth into the cartilage, with the same excellent cell entry properties as tFNA.

Photoisomerization of Azobenzene‐Extended Charybdotoxin for the Optical Control of Kv1.2 Potassium Channel Activity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Click‐chemistry compatible azobenzenes are synthesized and coupled on various positions at the surface of a disulfide‐bridged natural peptide. Monomers and dimers are produced and linked by azobenzene. The impact of azobenzene photoswitching on the ion channel blocking potency of the peptide is evaluated and revealed that proper positioning leads to ...

Reliable uncertainty estimate for antibiotic resistance classification with Stochastic Gradient Langevin Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Antibiotic resistance monitoring is of paramount importance in the face of this on-going global epidemic. Deep learning models trained with traditional optimization algorithms (e.g. Adam, SGD) provide poor posterior estimates when tested against out-of-distribution (OoD) antibiotic resistant/non-resistant genes.

Induction of sister chromatid exchanges by streptonigrin, an antibiotic and antineoplastic agent

open access: yesHereditas, 2009
The frequencies of chromosomal aberrations and sister chromatid exchanges, SCE, were analyzed in lateral root-tip cells of Vicia faba treated with the antibiotics streptonigrin or bleomycin. Whereas both agents were very potent inducers of chromosomal aberrations in all phases of the cell cycle, only streptonigrin was able to increase the frequency of ...

Electrochemical Determination of Gallic Acid in Tea Samples Using Pyramidal Pt Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A novel electrochemical sensor based on pyramidal Pt nanoparticles for gallic acid detection in black and green tea samples is developed. The sensor is prepared by a simple drop casting of nanoparticles on the electrode surface, without any supporting materials, such as polymer matrices and surfactants.

Unveiling the Potential of Innovative Gold(I) and Silver(I) Selenourea Complexes as Anticancer Agents Targeting TrxR and Cellular Redox Homeostasis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 28, Issue 70, December 15, 2022., 2022
Innovative Au(I) and Ag(I) NHC‐based selenourea complexes exhibit a prominent anticancer effect by selectively targeting TrxR in human cancer cells, thus hampering cancer cell redox machinery and inducing apoptotic cell death. Abstract A series of NHC‐based selenourea Ag(I) and Au(I) complexes were evaluated for their anticancer potential in vitro, on ...
