Detection of Bacterial Pathogens by Phage Antibody Display

open access: yesDisease Markers, 2000
Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a halophilic Gramnegative facultative anaerobe commonly found in estuarine waters and in seafood like shellfish. It has been implicated in outbreaks of gastro-enteritis in several countries [1]. Food borne illness caused by V.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Anti-platelet factor 4/polyanion antibodies mediate a new mechanism of autoimmunity

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Antibodies against the platelet factor 4 (PF4) support bacterial host defence but in some cases may lead to heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

GENERATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYCLONAL ANTIBODIES SPECIFIC TO HUMAN ESTROGEN RECEPTOR ERα [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnologia Acta
Aim. The purpose of the study was to generate and characterize anti-hERα polyclonal antibodies for elucidation of functional relationships between isoforms of estrogen receptor ERα and isoforms of ribosomal protein S6 kinase — S6K1. Methods.

Functional assays to screen and select monoclonal antibodies that target Yersinia pestis

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2023
Yersinia pestis is a gram-negative bacterium that causes plague in animals and humans. Depending on the route of disease transmission, the bacterium can cause an acute, often fatal disease that has a narrow window for treatment with antibiotics ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Monoclonal Antibodies as an Antibacterial Approach Against Bacterial Pathogens

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
In the beginning of the 21st century, the frequency of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has reached an apex, where even 4th and 5th generation antibiotics are becoming useless in clinical settings.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
