To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...

Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.

Differential in vitro and in vivo effect of barley cysteine and serine protease inhibitors on phytopathogenic microorganisms [PDF]
Protease inhibitors from plants have been involved in defence mechanisms against pests and pathogens. Phytocystatins and trypsin/α-amylase inhibitors are two of the best characterized protease inhibitor families in plants.

THE ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF DERMOSTATIN
Dermostatin is a polyene antibiotic which possesses a typical spectrum of antimicrobial activity. In vivo, by parenteral or oral administration, dermostatin was less effective than amphotericin B against Candida albicans. The in vivo activity of dermostatin was comparable to amphotericin B against Cryptococcus neoformans and Blastomyces dermatitidis ...

The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Antinomic natural self-protection mechanism in long-lasting woods: a case study with three tropical species from French Guiana [PDF]
We demonstrate in this work through 3 examples that Amazonian trees may specialize longlasting woods by means of at least to different approaches. Wallaba impregnates its wood with large amounts of weakly antifungal compounds acting in synergy, while ...

Antifungal activity of fermented dairy ingredients: Identification of antifungal compounds
Fungi are commonly identified as the cause for dairy food spoilage. This can lead to substantial economic losses for the dairy industry as well as consumer dissatisfaction. In this context, biopreservation of fermented dairy products using lactic acid bacteria, propionibacteria and fungi capable of producing a large range of antifungal metabolites is ...
