Fungal biofilm resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fungal biofilm infections have become increasingly recognised as a significant clinical problem. One of the major reasons behind this is the impact that these have upon treatment, as antifungal therapy often fails and surgical intervention is required ...

Antifungal therapy did not improve outcomes including 30-day all-cause mortality in patients suffering community-acquired perforated peptic ulcer-associated peritonitis with Candida species isolated from their peritoneal fluid

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, 2017
Background/purpose: Although patients suffering community-acquired perforated peptic ulcer (PPU)-associated peritonitis with Candida species isolated from their peritoneal fluid have higher chances of mortality and experiencing a complicated ...

Complications of hematopoietic stem transplantation: Fungal infections

open access: yesHematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Therapy, 2017
Patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are at increased risk of invasive fungal infections, especially during the early neutropenic phase and severe graft- versus-host disease.

Impact of ITS-Based Sequencing on Antifungal Treatment of Patients with Suspected Invasive Fungal Infections

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2020
Molecular techniques including the sequencing of fungal-specific DNA targets are increasingly used in the diagnosis of suspected invasive fungal infections.

Use of volatile fingerprints for rapid screening of antifungal agents for efficacy against dermatophyte Trichophyton species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The potential of using an electronic nose (E-nose) as a rapid technique for screening the responses of dermatophytes to antifungal agents was studied.

Antifungal resistance in dermatology

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology, 2018
Cutaneous fungal infections affect more than one-fourth of world's population. The pathogenesis and severity of fungal infection depend on various immunological and nonimmunological factors.

Case report: nanopore targeted sequencing in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary Aspergillus infection in a patient with acute promyelocytic leukemia

open access: yesHematology, 2023
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is an infectious disease with a high mortality rate due to diagnostic difficulties associated with the lack of a typical clinical presentation and the inadequacy of the available laboratory testing methods. Nanopore

Immunotherapy of invasive fungal infection in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Despite the availability of new antifungal compounds, invasive fungal infection remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in children and adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Allogeneic HSCT recipients

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.
