More on Bacterial Antigen in the Kidney
New England Journal of Medicine, 1973Chronic pyelonephritis remains a confused and confusing entity. One of the chief reasons is the loose way in which the term is applied to kidneys that show parenchymal scars in which there is predominantly tubular loss, interstitial fibrosis accompanied by chronic inflammatory cells, and variable changes in glomeruli, which in their extreme form are ...

The antigenic properties of bacterial spores
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 19441°. Bacterial spores are antigenic. 2°. Spore-antigen is distinct and separate from the antigens of the bacillary forms to which the spores give rise on germination. 3°. Antigens of the spores of various kinds of spore-bearing bacilli are also mutually distinct. I am greatly indebted to Miss A.de Groot for her technical assistence.

Transfer of the immunization to a bacterial antigen by RNA
Experientia, 1966L'iniezione ad animali normali di ARN estratto dalla milza di animali immunizzati con antigene ‘H’ diS. typhi, provoca la comparsa, nel siero degli animali riceventi, di anticorpi diretti contro tale antigene.

Early detection of bacterial antigens by counterimmunoelectrophoresis
European Journal of Pediatrics, 1980Counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE) is described as a rapid and specific method for early detection of bacterial antigens. This simple and reliable technique was applied to samples of serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 67 patients in whom neonatal septicemia or bacterial meningitis was initially suspected.

Bacterial modulation of antigen processing and presentation
Microbes and Infection, 2000This review examines the mechanisms by which bacteria influence the antigenic processing of endogenous and exogenous antigens presented by class I, class II, and nonclassical MHC molecules. Consequent effects on presentation of bacterial antigens, the ability of bacteria to evade host defences, and the potential induction of autoimmunity are discussed.

Antigenic variability of bacterial RNA polymerases
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1981Radioimmunoassay analysis of enteric and some other Gram-negative bacteria has shown that the antigenic structure of the RNA polymerase alpha subunit is more conserved than that of the beta and beta' subunits. Since anti-alpha antibodies do not affect RNA polymerase activity, the constraints which determine the low variability of the antigenic ...

Bacterial Antigens as Immunomodulators
1984The functioning of lymphocytes and macrophages may be significantly altered following exposure to gram positive and gram negative bacteria or to the biologically active components of these microorganisms.1,2 Immunomodulating substances related to bacteria have been found to either enhance or inhibit the functioning of immune cells.

Bacterial antigen detection test in meningitis
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2003To evaluate the role of bacterial antigen detection test in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for a rapid etiological diagnosis of bacterial meningitis. The study included 36 cases of bacterial meningitis and 14 controls. Latex particle agglutination test (LPA test) for detection of bacterial antigen was done in the CSF using slidex meningitis kit (Biomeriux ...

Bacterial ghosts as antigen delivery vehicles
Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2005The bacterial ghost system is a novel vaccine delivery system unusual in that it combines excellent natural intrinsic adjuvant properties with versatile carrier functions for foreign antigens. The efficient tropism of bacterial ghosts (BG) for antigen presenting cells promotes the generation of both cellular and humoral responses to heterologous ...

Bacterial capsular antigens. Structural patterns of capsular antigens
Biochemistry (Moscow), 2006Structural patterns of bacterial capsular antigens including capsular polysaccharides and exoglycans are given in this review. In addition, the immunological activity of capsular antigens and their role in type specificity of bacteria are discussed.
