The effects of symmetry on the dynamics of antigenic variation [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Math. Biol. 66, 115-137 (2013), 2012
In the studies of dynamics of pathogens and their interactions with a host immune system, an important role is played by the structure of antigenic variants associated with a pathogen. Using the example of a model of antigenic variation in malaria, we show how many of the observed dynamical regimes can be explained in terms of the symmetry of ...

Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes associated with ovarian tumors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Introduction: Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) are neurologic deficits triggered by an underlying remote tumor. PNS can antedate clinical manifestation of ovarian malignancy and enable its diagnosis at an early stage.

A Rare Case of Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm in a Child Mimicking Lymphoma/Leukemia Cutis

open access: yesDermatopathology, 2022
Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare tumor that affects elderly individuals and presents a poor prognosis. Skin is the most common site of involvement, accounting for 89% of the cases.

Mathematical models for order of mutation problem in myeloproliferative neoplasm: non-additivity and non-commutativity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In some patients of myeloproliferative neoplasm, two genetic mutations can be found: JAK2 V617F and TET2. When one mutation is present or not, the other mutation has different effects on regulating gene expressions. Besides, when both mutations are present, the order of occurrence might make a difference.

Case report: A case of anti-laminin 332 mucous membrane pemphigoid associated with severe pharyngolaryngeal involvement

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
A 74-year-old woman presented with a 30-day history of blisters and erosions in the oral cavity, trunk, and left eye conjunctival mucosa, also reporting a weight loss of 15 kg in the last 3 months.

Order-of-mutation effects on cancer progression: models for myeloproliferative neoplasm [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We develop a modeling framework for cancer progression that distinguishes the order of two possible mutations. Recent observations and information on myeloproliferative neoplasms are analyzed within our framework. In some patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms, two genetic mutations can be found, JAK2 V617F and TET2.

Paraneoplastic pemphigus with clinical features of lichen planus associated with low-grade B cell lymphoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
BACKGROUND: Neoplasia-induced lichen planus is described as a cell-mediated reaction to unknown epithelial antigens. Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP), characterized by the presence of a specific array of autoantibodies, probably represents a different form

Immunoprofiling of Drosophila Hemocytes by Single-cell Mass Cytometry

open access: yesGenomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, 2021
Single-cell mass cytometry (SCMC) combines features of traditional flow cytometry (i.e., fluorescence-activated cell sorting) with mass spectrometry, making it possible to measure several parameters at the single-cell level for a complex analysis of ...
