Impact of onset age of type 2 diabetes mellitus on risk of renal complications compared to age‐matched non‐diabetic patients: Two cohort studies in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective With the increasing incidence of early‐onset type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the significant burden of renal complications in younger patients, this study aimed to investigate the association between the age at onset of T2DM and the risks of renal complications. Methods Two retrospective cohort studies were conducted among adults

Concordance‐discordance between apolipoprotein B and lipid biomarkers in predicting 20‐year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk: The ATTICA study (2002–2022)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
This study examined the association between 20‐year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk and discordance among apolipoprotein B100 (apoB) and lipid biomarkers, using established thresholds. ApoB strongly correlated with LDL‐C and non‐HDL‐C, though concordance was limited.

Association between CMR‐derived hepatic T1‐time, tricuspid regurgitation and survival

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
We investigated the association between tricuspid regurgitation (TR) severity and hepatic T1‐time in 1029 patients undergoing cardiac MRI and echocardiography. Hepatic T1‐time increased progressively with TR severity and remained independently associated after adjusting for NT‐proBNP and right ventricular function. Both TR and hepatic T1‐time predicted

Epilepsy as a dynamic disease: Toward actionable, individualized seizure risk prediction

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract The current definition of epilepsy allows diagnosis after a single unprovoked seizure if the estimated 10‐year recurrence risk is ≥60%. While this framework is grounded in epidemiological evidence, it does not align with the shorter time horizons that guide many clinical and personal decisions.
