Anticholinergic, Antimuscarinic Bronchodilators

American Review of Respiratory Disease, 1984
Abstract The anticholinergic, antimuscarinic compounds are potent and hitherto neglected bronchodilators. Although atropine itself has drawbacks, principally related to its rapid absorption and consequent systemic side effects, its quaternary ammonium congeners, atropine methonitrate and ipratropium bromide, are poorly absorbed.

Efficacy and Adverse Events of Antimuscarinics for Treating Overactive Bladder: Network Meta-Analyses

open access: yesEuropean Urology, 2012
CONTEXT: Millions of people worldwide experience overactive bladder (OAB), and antimuscarinics are the pharmacologic treatment of choice. Several conventional meta-analyses have been published, but they fail to quantify efficacy and adverse events across

Local Effects of Antimuscarinics

Urologic Clinics of North America, 2006
Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome has been estimated to occur in nearly 17% of the population. The most common drug treatments for OAB are antimuscarinic agents that act to increase bladder capacity and decrease the urge to urinate during the storage phase.

Is There a Synergistic Effect of Topical Oestrogens When Administered With Antimuscarinics in the Treatment of Symptomatic Detrusor Overactivity?

open access: yesEuropean Urology, 2009
Background: No authors have investigated whether the administration of local oestrogens in addition to antimuscarinics could have a synergistic effect in the therapy of overactive bladder (CAB).

Bladder Antimuscarinics and Cognitive Decline in Elderly Patients [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimer's and Dementia: Translational Research and Clinical Interventions, 2017
Introduction: The evidence on the impact of bladder antimuscarinics initiation on cognitive function in older adults is inconsistent. Methods: A retrospective analysis of data from the National Alzheimer\u27s Coordinating Center (NACC) on enrollees 65 ...

Anticholinergics/Antimuscarinic Drugs in Asthma

Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2014
Anticholinergic alkaloids have been used for thousands of years for the relief of bronchoconstriction and other respiratory symptoms, and their use in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is well established. Acetylcholine, acting through muscarinic receptor (M) receptor, modulates multiple physiologic functions pertinent to asthma ...
