Antimutagenic effect of an antioxidant in mammals

Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology, 1984
To test a possible antimutagenic activity of ethoxyquin (EQ) in bone-marrow cells, 3 cytogenetic tests with distinct genetic end-points were applied. Cyclophosphamide (CPA), serving as test mutagen, and the antioxidant EQ were administered immediately following each other to Chinese hamsters by stomach tube.

Antimutagenic effect of adaptation to stress

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1993
C57BL mice were adapted to moderate periodic hypoxia and repeated electric pain stresses of limited intensity. These animals adapted to each of the factors and control animals were given the potent mutagen, free radical oxidation activator dioxidine in a single dose of 300 mg/kg.

Antimutagenic effects of casein and its digestion products

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1993
The antimutagenic potential of casein was investigated using several mutagens, including some food-related mutagens, and the Salmonella/microsome and Escherichia coli DNA-repair tests. The effect depended on the type of mutagen and the incubation time of casein with the mutagens. Casein was very effective against benzo[a]pyrene, N-methylnitrosourea and

Study on the antimutagenic effect of pine needle extract

Mutation Research Letters, 1995
The micronucleus test and sister-chromatic exchange (SCE) test were used to research the antimutagenic effect of pine needle extract. The results showed that the mutagenic effect of cyclophosphamide (CP) was inhibited by the pine needle extract. The micronucleus frequencies (MNF) of mouse bone marrow and human lymphocytes from peripheral blood were ...

Effect of selected antimutagens on the genotoxicity of antitumor agents

Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1998
Cyclophosphamide (CP), bleomycin (BL), doxorubicin (DOX) and cisplatin (CISP) are potent antitumor drugs used worldwide against many forms of human cancer. As with most such agents, there can be physiological side-effects and the possible induction of mutations and other genotoxic effects in non-tumor cells.

Antimutagenic effects of garlic extract on chromosomal aberrations

Cancer Letters, 2002
Garlic (Allium sativum) has been used since ancient times, as a spice and also for its medicinal properties. In present set of investigations antimutagenic effect of garlic extract (GE) has been evaluated using 'in vivo chromosomal aberration assay' in Swiss albino mice.

Studies of Antimutagenic Effects of Vitamins A and C in Humans

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2013
We studied antimutagenic effects of vitamins A and C (in recommended daily doses for 30 days) and their effects on the kinetics of human buccal epitheliocytes. Buccal swab specimens were collected in 29 students before and after vitamin course.

Antimutagenic effects on male germ cells of mice

Mutation Research Letters, 1984
The alkylating agent cyclophosphamide (CPA) and the antioxidant ethoxyquin (EQ) were administered perorally to NMRI mice. The strong clastogenic action of CPA on spermatogonia was diminished by simultaneous doses of EQ. Higher doses of the antioxidant produced greater anticlastogenic action. Furthermore, the action of the mutagen and the antioxidant on

Antimutagenic effects of natural phenolic compounds in beans

Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis, 1999
Polyphenols in fruits, vegetables (e.g., flavonols like quercetin) and tea (e.g., catechins such as epigallocatechin gallate) are good antioxidants with antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic properties. In the present study, the Salmonella typhimurium tester strain YG1024 was used in the plate-incorporation test to examine the antimutagenic effect of ...

Antimutagenic effects of natural and synthetic hormonal steroids

Teratogenesis, Carcinogenesis, and Mutagenesis, 1986
AbstractAmong the steroid molecules, bile acids have been shown to have either a co‐ or an antimutagenic activity toward various direct and indirect acting mutagens in the Ames test. The present report extends such observations to other steroids having hormonal activity.
