C57BL mice were adapted to moderate periodic hypoxia and repeated electric pain stresses of limited intensity. These animals adapted to each of the factors and control animals were given the potent mutagen, free radical oxidation activator dioxidine in a single dose of 300 mg/kg.

Abstract Acridines and their methyl derivatives at the ring nitrogen are mutagenic during meiosis, and antimutagenic during mitosis in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae . The biological activity is strongly dependent upon the physio-chemical conditions of the experiments.

[The cytotoxic and antimutagenic effect of dithranol].

The anti-psoriatic compound anthralin (dithranol, cignolin) was determined to exhibit a strong cytostatic activity on HeLa-Köln cells; an ED50 concentration of 1.2 microM was determined for the cells. These growth-inhibition data were confirmed by thymidine-uptake experiments.
