Nippon Eiyo Shokuryo Gakkaishi, 1997 生薬に含まれ, 抗ヘルペスウイルス作用を有する加水分解型タンニン-ユーゲニインの変異原抑制活性について検討した。変異原抑制率は, 変異原物質であるTrp-P-1, Trp-P-2, 薬物代謝系酵素群を含むS9Mixによって代謝活性化されたact. Trp-P-2や1-NPをSalmonella typhimurium TA 98株に作用させ, 生じた復帰コロニー数の差によって算出した。Trp-P-1の変異原性はユーゲニイン65μgにより50%抑制され, その他の変異原物質, Trp-P-2, act. Trp-P-2や直接変異原物質である1-NPの変異原性も強く抑制された。また, この活性は, 代謝活性によって変異原性を生じるTrp-P-1, Trp-P-2よりも直接変異原性を示すact.
