Trends in chemotherapy use for early-stage breast cancer from 2006 to 2019

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research
Background Little is known about how use of chemotherapy has evolved in breast cancer patients. We therefore describe chemotherapy patterns for women with stage I-IIIA breast cancer in the Optimal Breast Cancer Chemotherapy Dosing (OBCD) Study using data

The role of gut microbiota dysbiosis in drug-induced brain injury: mechanisms and therapeutic implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
Drug-induced brain injury (DIBI) results from toxicity, interactions or misuse and is increasingly linked to gut-microbiota dysbiosis operating via the gut–brain axis.

The diagnostic role of saliva: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
As a diagnostic fluid, saliva offers distinctive advantages over serum because it can be collected non-invasively by individuals, even by patient.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Enhancing the Australian National Health Survey Data for Use in a Microsimulation Model of Pharmaceutical Drug Usage and Cost [PDF]

open access: yes
While static microsimulation models of the tax-transfer system are now available throughout the developed world, health microsimulation models are much rarer.

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

Characteristics, treatment patterns, and outcomes in patients with high-risk locally advanced cervical cancer

open access: yesCancer Treatment and Research Communications
Objective: To characterize the real-world treatment patterns and outcomes of patients with high-risk locally advanced cervical cancer (HR-LACC). Methods: This retrospective study identified and randomly selected adults diagnosed between 2010 and 2018 ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
