Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Antioxidant Activities of Physalis peruviana

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2005
Physalis peruviana (PP) is a widely used medicinal herb for treating cancer, malaria, asthma, hepatitis, dermatitis and rheumatism. In this study, the hot water extract (HWEPP) and extracts prepared from different concentrations of ethanol (20, 40, 60, 80 and 95% EtOH) from the whole plant were evaluated for antioxidant activities.

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

In vitro simulated digestion on the biostability of Hibiscus cannabinus L. seed extract

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2014
We investigate the biostability of phenolic acids from a kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seed extract using an in vitro model simulating the physicochemical (pH, temperature and bile salts) and biological (gastric and pancreatic enzymes) gastrointestinal ...

Antioxidative activity of a novel antioxidant resorcimoline

open access: yesFree Radical Research
During the synthesis of a known drug, we synthesized a novel compound impromptu, which we have named resorcimoline. This compound exhibited significant antioxidative activity. In this report, we present the concentration-dependent free radical scavenging activity of resorcimoline against various free radical species.

Antimicrobial Activity of Selected Antioxidants

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1977
Tripticase soy broth containing 100, 150, 200 and 400 ppm of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), propyl gallate, nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA), or combined BHA and propyl gallate was inoculated with Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus to determine the antimicrobial effect of these antioxidants.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
