Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. Novel nitro‐substituted diaryl 1,3,4‐ and 1,2,4‐oxadiazoles were synthesised via molecular hybridisation of bioactive heterocycles. Selected derivatives exhibited potent antimicrobial activity, including against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus, and cholinesterase inhibitory activity, with promising selectivity.
