Estudo dos antiporters Na+/H+ NhaC e NhaE de Neisseria meningitidis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013

Membrane transporters for the special amino acid glutamine: Structure/function relationships and relevance to human health.

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2014
Glutamine together with glucose is essential for body’s homeostasis. It is the most abundant amino acid and is involved in many biosynthetic, regulatory and energy production processes.

Cation/proton antiport systems in Escherichia coli. Properties of the potassium/proton antiporter.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1980
The potassium/proton antiport system of Escherichia coli has been characterized by the effect of monovalent cations on the pH gradient formed by oxidation of lactate in everted membrane vesicles. Substrates of the system include K+, Na+, Li+, Rb+, and Tl+. The antiporter could also be assayed by uptake of 204Tl+ into everted vesicles.

The Oral‐Gut Axis: Bidirectional Interactions Between Microbiome and Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This study aims to summarize the mechanisms underlying ectopic colonization of the gut by oral pathobionts and the microbial and host factors that regulate this process. ABSTRACT Increased colonization of typically oral microorganisms is frequently observed in the gut mucosa or lumen of individuals with gastrointestinal disorders, including patients ...

Lotus tenuis tolerates combined salinity and waterlogging: maintaining O2 transport to roots and expression of an NHX1-like gene contribute to regulation of Na+ transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Salinity and waterlogging interact to reduce growth for most crop and pasture species. The combination of these stresses often cause a large increase in the rate of Na+ and Cl− transport to shoots; however, the mechanisms responsible for this are largely

Regulation by the Transcriptional Regulator YdcI in E. coli and (p)ppGpp‐Dependent Activation of ydcI Expression

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
YdcI, a LysR‐type transcription regulator in Escherichia coli, regulates loci like iraP and mqo. Its expression is induced by (p)ppGpp under stress conditions, and protein levels rise during mid‐exponential growth, connecting its role to stress response and metabolism control. ABSTRACT YdcI, a LysR‐type transcription regulator, has been associated with

Sodium/proton antiporter in Streptococcus faecalis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1987
Streptococcus faecalis, like other bacteria, accumulates potassium ions and expels sodium ions. This paper is concerned with the pathway of sodium extrusion. Earlier studies (D.L. Heefner and F.M. Harold, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 79:2798-2802, 1982) showed that sodium extrusion is effected by a primary, ATP-linked sodium pump.

TurboID‐based proteomic profiling reveals proxitome of the IRT1 metal transporter and new insight into IRT1 endocytosis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Identification of new regulators of Arabidopsis IRT1 endocytosis and metal transport using TurboID. TurboID proximity labeling of the Arabidopsis IRT1 root metal transporter identified new IRT1‐interacting proteins upon different metal regimes. Among validated candidates, the endosome‐localized NHX5 Na+ (K+)/H+ antiporter and the plasma membrane ...

Protein phylogenetic analysis of Ca2+/cation antiporters and insights into their evolution in plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2012
Cation transport is a critical process in all organisms and is essential for mineral nutrition, ion stress tolerance, and signal transduction. Transporters that are members of the Ca2+/Cation Antiporter (CaCA) superfamily are involved in the transport of

Duckweeds under salt stress: a meta‐analysis of growth inhibition in relation to morphological and physiological traits and a systematic review of molecular responses

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Salinity reduces duckweed growth responses. Summary Salinity is one of the main environmental factors limiting the performance of duckweeds and despite growing ecological and biotechnological interest in these macrophytes, there is a lack of quantitative analyses of their responses to sodium chloride.
