Mucosal‐Associated Invariant T Cells: Origins, Biological Functions, Diseases, and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 11, November 2025.
Mucosa‐associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are an evolutionarily conserved class of innate‐like T lymphocytes that rely on MR1 molecules to recognize microbial metabolites and play a central role in immune surveillance and inflammatory regulation.

Human Endogenous Retroviruses and Diseases

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 11, November 2025.
Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs), remnants of ancient retroviral integrations into the human genome, are modulated by viral infections, genetic inheritance, and triggers including environmental factors, epigenetic dysregulation, oncogene activation, and aging.

Dendritic Cells: Origin, Classification, Development, Biological Functions, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 11, November 2025.
This review systematically summarizes dendritic cells (DCs) originating from hematopoietic stem cells, their major subsets (cDC1s, cDC2s, pDCs, moDCs, LCs) and core functions (antigen capture/presentation, adaptive immunity activation, immune tolerance induction, and regulation of innate immune cells).

Current Landscape of Children's Surgery in Africa: A Multicenter Analysis of 16,000 Cases

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, Volume 49, Issue 11, Page 3163-3172, November 2025.
For the first time at this scale, we have assessed the epidemiology and outcomes of pediatric surgical care in LMICs. Findings were consistent with studies on the burden of disease, with a larger proportion of younger children accessing surgery, comparable mortality to other African studies, and higher mortality than in HICs.
