Objective Evaluation of Antitussive Agents Under Clinical Conditions
Respiration, 1976A new method for objective assessment of cough under normal or pathological conditions is described. Thoracic coughing can be discriminated from any other pressure wave because of its relatively high frequency. This method was applied in a double blind crossover trial in 18 patients with respiratory disease.

Studies on the potency of various antitussive agents
Agents and Actions, 1977Several antitussive agents were assessed for their cough-suppressant activity. Cough responses were obtained by electrically stimulating the lower brainstem, in cats lightly anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital or in unanesthetized midcollicular decerebrate preparations. Cough sounds were recorded with the aid of a microphone.

We have previously reported antitussive effects of naltrindole (NTI), a typical delta opioid receptor antagonist, in a rat model. The ED50 values of NTI by intraperitoneal and peroral injections were 104 microg/kg and 1840 microg/kg, respectively, comparable to those of codeine.

[Cariogenic antitussive agents].
Schweizerische Monatsschrift fur Zahnheilkunde = Revue mensuelle suisse d'odonto-stomatologie, 1978Nine cough mixtures available on the Swiss market and randomly chosen were tested telemetrically. With the exception of Sinecod all syrups effected immediate and long-lasting pH-depressions in interdental plaque. Patients should be informed on the pronounced caries-promoting potential of these medications.
