Associated Clinical Factors for Coagulation Dysfunction due to Trimeresurus stejnegeri: A Retrospective Observational Study. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Toxicol, 2023
Background. Trimeresurus stejnegeri (T.s) accounts for most snakebites in southern China, which always leads to coagulation dysfunction. Coagulopathy due to venom is widely considered to be a characteristic phenomenon of the DIC‐like syndrome. It is vitally important for first‐line clinicians to improve this condition as soon as possible.

Association of a Network of Immunologic Response and Clinical Features With the Functional Recovery From Crotalinae Snakebite Envenoming

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
BackgroundThe immunologic pathways activated during snakebite envenoming (SBE) are poorly described, and their association with recovery is unclear. The immunologic response in SBE could inform a prognostic model to predict recovery.

Evolution in the choice of therapies used to treat latrodectism: Redback spider antivenom or standard analgesic medications. Nothing to rave about

open access: yesEmergency Medicine Australasia, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 630-635, August 2023., 2023
Red back spider antivenom (RBSAV) use fell dramatically over time from 2013. There was no difference in rate of complete pain resolution from latrodectism when comparing patients treated with RBSAV by intravenous or intramuscular route and or standard analgesic agents. Complete resolution of pain from latrodectism is difficult to achieve. More research

Applying Ensemble Ecological Niche Modeling to Identify High Risk Areas for Scorpions' Sting. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In this study, we used ecological niche models to map the distribution of eight of the most dangerous scorpion species to quantify sting risk across Iran. We identified the areas where people are most vulnerable to scorpion stings based on exposure to scorpions and limited accessibility to healthcare centers.
