The interferon-stimulated gene IFITM3 restricts West Nile virus infection and pathogenesis [PDF]
The interferon-induced transmembrane protein (IFITM) family of proteins inhibit infection of several different enveloped viruses in cell culture by virtue of their ability to restrict entry and fusion from late endosomes.

Nanotechnology-based antiviral therapeutics
The host immune system is highly compromised in case of viral infections and relapses are very common. The capacity of the virus to destroy the host cell by liberating its own DNA or RNA and replicating inside the host cell poses challenges in the ...

Polyclonal and monoclonal B lymphocytes response in HCV-infected patients treated with direct-acting antiviral agents [PDF]
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection can be associated with extrahepatic manifestations such as mixed cryoglobulinaemia and lymphoproliferative disorders that are endowed with increased rates of morbidity and all-cause mortality.

Interfacial Chemistry Control of In Situ Grown Gold Nanoparticles on Functionalized MXene Nanosheets
Gold nucleation on MXene is governed by interfacial oxidation, not termination density. An interface‐resolved pathway is uncovered in which Au nucleates at TiO2/TiOx, guided by local reduction at the surface; where tailored functionalization directs when and where nuclei form, enabling the formation of predictable heterostructures.

Multiple effects of silymarin on the hepatitis C virus lifecycle [PDF]
Silymarin, an extract from milk thistle (Silybum marianum), and its purified flavonolignans have been recently shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, both in vitro and in vivo.

Viruses are major pathogenic agents causing a variety of serious diseases in humans, other animals, and plants. Drugs that combat viral infections are called antiviral drugs. There are no effective antiviral drugs for many viral infections. However, there are several drugs for influenza, a couple of drugs for herpesviruses, and some new antiviral drugs

This work explores the antimicrobial action of AZO‐Ag and TiO2‐Ag nanocoatings on plastic, demonstrating good efficacy against highly‐critical antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, yeast, and virus. A multi‐assay approach is here exploited to inspect the contribution of direct and indirect antimicrobial mechanisms, and potential human toxicity is also ...
