Remnant Case Forms and Patterns of Syncretism in Early West Germanic

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Early stages of the Old West Germanic languages differ from the other two branches, Gothic and Norse, by showing remnants of a fifth case in a‐ and ō‐stem nouns. Uncovering the Process of Sexual Segregation: Male Early‐Life Individual Tactics Shape Its Onset and Affect Phenotypic Quality in a Large Mammal

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Early‐life traits significantly influence sexual segregation patterns and phenotypic quality in male fallow deer. Males in better condition and those more risk‐prone left natal groups earlier with fewer returns to natal groups. However, males with frequent excursions back to natal groups compensated for initial body condition disadvantages.

Weaponry Investment in the Socially Monogamous Snapping Shrimp Alpheus brasileiro (Decapoda: Alpheidae)

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Weapons are morphological structures used by animals in various contexts, especially in intra‐specific contests and visual displays. In snapping shrimps of the genus Alpheus, particularly the monogamous species Alpheus brasileiro, both sexes bear enlarged chelipeds, potentially conferring advantages in mate competition or territorial defence ...

Quantification of Furosine (Nε-(2-Furoylmethyl)-l-lysine) in Different Parts of Velvet Antler with Various Processing Methods and Factors Affecting Its Formation

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Furosine (Nε-(2-furoylmethyl)-l-lysine) is formed during the early stages of the Maillard reaction from a lysine Amadori compound and is frequently used as a marker of reaction progress.

Pairwise Imitation and Tournament Graphs

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates strategic dynamics under the behavioral rule of pairwise interact and imitate (PII), which requires minimal information and emphasizes outperforming opponents in pairwise interactions. We characterize PII using weak tournament graphs and, for a broad class of dynamics, establish a one‐shot stability result for ...

Postcranial anatomy of the Miocene hippopotamoids of Toros‐Menalla, Chad

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We establish a framework for the identification of postcranial remains in hippopotamoids by describing and comparing for the first time two late Miocene hippopotamoids from Toros‐Menalla, Chad (Hexaprotodon garyam, an early hippopotamid, and Libycosaurus bahri, the last African anthracothere) with the common hippopotamus.

Estimating Boone and Crockett scores for white‐tailed deer from simple antler measurements

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2013
Antler characteristics are a measure of phenotypic quality and are used by wildlife managers and hunters to assess herd characteristics of white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus).
