Association of anurans with pathogenic fungi

Mycopathologia, 1985
In a study of 450 Amazonian anurans, we isolated yeasts and yeast-like fungi from 54 animals (Bufo granulosus, B. marinus, Dendrophrynyscus sp., Hyla geographica, H. lanciformes, Ololygon rubra, Adenomera hylaedactyla, Eleutherodactylus fenestratus, Leptodactylus fuscus, L. ocellatus, L. pentadactylus). The internal organs of these animals did not show

Cellular differentiation in the anuran pronephros

The Anatomical Record, 1963
AbstractRibonucleic acid (RNA) is detectable histochemically by means of methyl green pyronin staining (controlled with ribonuclease) in the cytoplasm of the proximal tubules of the frog (Rana pipiens). This is seen at Shumway stage 23 when the proximal tubules become differentiated from the remainder of the tubular complex.

Control of breathing in anuran amphibians

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2007
The primary role of the respiratory system is to ensure adequate tissue oxygenation, eliminate carbon dioxide and help to regulate acid-base status. To maintain this homeostasis, amphibians possess an array of receptors located at peripheral and central chemoreceptive sites that sense respiration-related variables in both internal and external ...

Anuran feeding after hypophysectomy

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1971
Spontaneous feeding continued in toads (Bufo americanus) and frogs (Rana p. pipiens) for 8–30 days following removal of the pars distalis. The toads always died within a few days after cessation of feeding. It is concluded that the pars distalis is not as essentially involved in normal feeding mechanisms as recently postulated by Dierickx.

Dorsal striatopallidal system in anurans

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 2003
AbstractThe dorsal striatopallidal system of tetrapods consists of the dorsal striatum (caudate‐putamen in mammals) and the dorsal pallidum. Although the existence of striatal and pallidal structures has been well documented in anuran amphibians, the exact boundaries of these structures have so far been a matter of debate.

Morphological characterization of the anuran integument of the Proceratophrys and Odontophrynus genera (Amphibia, Anuran, Leptodactylidae)

Micron, 2007
The morphological characteristics of the leptodactylid integument of Proceratophrys and Odontophrynus genera were investigated by means of stereoscopic, low vacuum scanning electron and light microscopy. The integument surface of Proceratophrys boiei, Proceratophrys laticeps and Proceratophrys appendiculata exhibited several projections, while the ...

The regeneration of limbs in adult anurans

Development, 1967
ABSTRACT The regeneration of limbs, after simple amputation, in two families (four genera) of primitive anurans was investigated. All produced hypotypic regenerates of varying size and degree of morphogenesis. Despite certain differences possibly related to phylogenetic affinities, both Discoglossidae and Pipidae regenerated in similar ...

Function of the Anuran Conus Arteriosus

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1974
ABSTRACT The anuran conus arteriosus was studied by direct observation of its structure and function and by observing the effects of artificially induced contraction on the pressure pulse in the arterial arches. The beat of the anuran conus was found to close the outlet to the pulmocutaneous arches. The timing of the beat of the conus in

Anuran heart development

2021

Neuromast topography in anuran amphibians

Journal of Morphology, 1987
AbstractGeneralized anuran tadpoles across families exhibit a similar neuromast morphology on their heads, as follows: (1) all neuromast lines known for anurans are present; (2) within these lines total neuromast number ranges from about 250 to 320; (3) neuromasts form linear stitches composed of two to three, but sometimes up to five, neuromasts; (4 ...
